Dynamite - Handle with Care

Today was Kellen's first soccer practice. He's been looking forward to today for months! He was suited up and ready to go well before it was time to leave, but thankfully practice was at 12:30 so we didn't have too long to wait around this morning. I think he looks like such a big kid in his soccer uniform! His team is called the Dynamite, though the way it works with his age group is just to have practice for the first half of the session and then a "game" with his own teammates for the second half. So mostly just a mass of little guys in red shirts running after a ball. :) I'd say the first half of the practice went well, with Kellen working on trapping the ball and dribbling, but during the game portion Kellen got discouraged and spent much of the time just wandering around the field and crying. He wanted a chance to kick the ball and didn't seem to understand that he had to be aggressive and go after it - that's Kellen for ya. He was also really worried that A) he didn't know how to play and B) his soccer ball was going to get dirty. I felt really bad for him being the one kid of the team standing out there crying, but what are you going to do? We're going to try the next 7 practices and see how it goes. Then maybe he'll go back to gymnastics... :) This whole soccer culture is just not for me (yep - even at 5 there were some of those parents...).

Sounds like he's learning about a lot more than just soccer on this team. He's already a little prodigy at music and gymnastics...so it's okay if he doesn't love everything he tries.
