Squirrel Girl

EB may have been slow on the hair and teeth, but she's beating out my other 2 kids in the verbal development category. She uses a number of intentional words now, but by far her most frequent word is squirrel. When she says it it sounds like curl. At every meal I have to position her high chair so she can look out the back windows onto our deck and watch the birds and squirrels flock around our bird feeder. Anything that moves and comes to the bird feeder is, in her book, a squirrel. Breakfast is very noisy - she YELLS "Squirrel! Squirrel! Squirrel! Squirrel go! Squirrel down!" constantly, as the birds and squirrels become new and exciting again with each new day. She also hisses at them - her loving sound for all animals except for cows (those she moos at). Tonight we took the kids to walk around the lake and feed the ducks, and we knew EB would go nuts for all the webbed "squirrels" swimming in the water. She did! It was funny to hear her yelling and hissing all along our walk. Several ducks got up on the walkway and G carried her close to one, but she got a little panicky and fussed until G backed off. I've tried teaching her to say bird, but she seems content to say squirrel right now and I think it's cute.

wish there was a soundtrack to this picture - EB pointing and calling out "squirrel squirrel!" She was so excited!

Mesmorized by the ducks, but then a little unsure when this one got close.

it was such a nice evening and there were lots of "squirrels" out - herons, geese, baby ducks, turtles. We didn't walk far because we spent so much time watching the animals.

K&A like running off ahead of us on the path. I think this was just before they started racing and AA fell. But she spotted a huge ant carrying an even bigger twig, and that got her laughing and the fall was soon forgotten.

The pretty sunset made AA look like she's at the beach! I think K had had enough of my camera...
