Bea Hive: Lazy Day

We didn't have too much planned for July 4 - these "cookout" holidays tend to sneak up on me and I don't have anything planned! But sometimes it's just nice to have everyone home for the day with nothing we have to do. We ran a few errands relating to our basement project and K got to spend some time in the backyard with G and his new baseball bat, glove and baseball. AA spent a long time meticulously coloring a Sea World coloring sheet. She is becoming quite the crayon artist in the last few weeks. EB made great strides in walking yesterday, and today it seems to be her preferred mode of getting from her to there. It's very funny. I'll post some video later. Last evening we met up with friends to go see the fireworks at the state fairgrounds. K&A each got a treat - cotton candy that caused one of AA's patented meltdowns (ironic - she was angry that the cotton candy melted down too fast in her mouth and that she was still hungry after eating it), and a snowcone for K. Once AA got over her crying fit we did manage to set up camp and settle in for a few hours to wait for the fireworks to begin. The kids all played together, starting up games of ring around the rosy and duck-duck-goose, and even EB was content to toddle around the toys and munch on snacks. Just before the fireworks were set to begin a big storm rolled in, complete with thunder and lightning, so the fireworks were called off. KK was pretty terrified, and the lightning got much more brilliant and noisy on the ride home, so he was quite relieved to be inside with all the doors and windows shut and locked (he checked) so that the storm couldn't get inside. He calmed down when I taught him to start counting off the seconds between seeing lightning and hearing the thunder so he could figure out how far away the lightning strikes were. He was relieved when he could figure out that the strikes were 1, 2 and 3 miles away and he could imagine them all the way at the mall, a friend's house, or at the drum shop. Today's another lazy day with more baseball, coloring, watching Wimbledon, learning to walk, watching a movie, running and errand, mowing the grass, and dinner with friends to look forward to.
